A Dedicated Physician
D
r. Bonnie Sherr, 50, of
Bloomfield Hills, died March
24, 2009, of sarcoma. She was a
physician specializing in geriatrics.
Bonnie was a person who loved beauty
and art. This love permeated her whole
life. Painting, furniture, antiques and
sculpture were all her passions as well as
collecting antique jewelry.
Bonnie's love of beauty extended into
the intangible art of music. She was a
fan of classical and chamber music; and
she, herself, was a very fine musician.
As a student at Kingswood School in
Bloomfield Hills, she was encouraged by
her piano teacher to enter a music con-
servatory.
Bonnie, however, chose a career in
medicine. This had been her dream since
she was 10, and she became a deeply
committed and compassionate physician
serving elderly patients.
It was through her job as a doctor that
she expressed her love for people. She was
devoted to her patients. She freely gave
her time to them, and they, in turn, gave
her their trust. There would be no corn-
promise. When Bonnie got sick and could
no longer practice medicine, she received
stacks upon stacks of cards and letters
from her patients and colleagues.
SYLVIA S. BARR, 95, of Southfield, died
March 25, 2009.
She was a well-known and beloved
Hebrew schoolteacher and Hebrew tutor,
who taught and tutored students num-
bering in the thousands. She prepared
students for their bar and bat mitzvahs,
was a fine pianist and harpist, having
graduated from the Detroit Institute
of Music. Mrs. Barr celebrated her bat
mitzvah at age 90.
She is survived by her daughters and
son-in-law, Rochelle Barr of Bloomfield
Hills, Brenda and Dr. Jerome Sage; seven
grandchildren; eight great-grandchil-
dren.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Samuel W. Barr; loving mother of the
late Maurice Edwin Barr.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.

Inner Strength
Behind her delicate slender physique,
behind the gentle, soft voice and her
mane of long blond hair, there was a per-
son of incredible inner strength and per-
sonal drive, guided by the highest moral
standards. She believed that she could
accomplish anything with hard work and
would go to the Nth degree to achieve
her goals. When she was challenged by
the sarcoma diagnosis, she showed this
incredible strength by taking on the bur-
den of her own health care. Just as she
cared for her patients, she went to bat for
herself, giving 100 percent for a cure.
For the 20 years that Bonnie was her
