In a 2006 Science Advi- sory and a 2008 letter to the FDA, the American Heart Association (AHA) . Fi issue with that x ) took claim and concluded that the previous 10 years of health stud- ies had not confirmed "clinically important favorable effects" of soy (or isoflavone supple- ments) on cardiovascular risk factors. The science advisory also concluded that the efficacy of soy isoflavones in preventing certain types of cancer had not been shown. The AHA did say, however, that there "may be benefits in using soy proteins to replace foods high in animal protein that contain saturated fat and cholesterol."
