East Lansing — MSU Hillel
took 25 students to Israel on a
Taglit-Birthright Israel trip in
December and January, and
is planning another trip in the
spring. The 10-day trips are
free for Jewish young adults
between the ages of 18 and 26
who have never been to Israel
with a peer group.
During the winter trip, stu-
dents traveled to several his-
toric places in Israel, includ-
ing Tzfat, Tel Aviv, the Golan
Heights, the Negev, the Dead
Sea and the Sea of Galilee.
The students spent Shabbat in
Jerusalem. Ten participated in a
Hebrew naming ceremony, and 11 had
their bar/bat mitzvahs.
Alicia Luzkow, a senior from Haslett,
described the trip as "amazing:'
Luzkow said, "Prior to the trip, I didn't
know anyone I was traveling to Israel
with. Through this incredible experi-
ence, I was able to make friendships
that will last forever?'
Though Israel was at war in Gaza
during the trip, there were no security
threats to the students. Since returning
to East Lansing, the 25 participants

reunited for an Israel-inspired din-
ner and have become more involved
in pro-Israeli groups at Hillel and on
campus.
MSU Hillel is planning another
Taglit-Birthright Israel trip in May. For
