Both couples were amazed and touched by their gifts. "The detail and love that was put
into making it means so much to us," Ali said.
Benjamin, too, was in awe at the magnitude of the project. "I love the fact that my par-
ents went to such great lengths to give us such a memorable keepsake," he said. "I was
surprised when I saw the quilt, in the sense of how beautiful it was, but not surprised that
my mother and father went to those lengths. The quilt is an amazing collaboration of both
of our lives, along with our family and ancestors."
Some of the photos made a strong impact. "My favorites are the picture of my father
holding me right after I was born, next to the picture of Randi's father holding her right
after she was born," Benjamin said. "They are almost identical — like they were taken
together."
Randi laughed at the pairs of photos where she and Benjamin each were wearing sailor
suits and where the two were bowling in the exact same position.
"And there's one of me when I was little that looks exactly like our daughter Ava, who
will be 2 in April, at almost the same age," Randi said. "It's like she's on our quilt."
The quilts are now keepsakes in Benjamin and Randi's West Bloomfield home and
Jeremy and Ali's home in Chicago.
"Getting married underneath the quilt was truly special as we were able to look up at
pictures of our families as well as a history of our relationship," Jeremy said. For Ali, "It
was such an honor to get married underneath years and years of wonderful memories."
Randi also was moved by the gift created by her in-laws. "They are so generous," she
said. 'I am very lucky to have them in my life.
"I remember standing under the chuppah at our wedding and looking at the quilt
above us," Randi said. "The best part of the whole wedding for me was having all of our
family members right above us as we started our new life."
