That was nearly 10 years ago, when a group of hostesses chose favors that would bring a
bit of fun as people were saying their goodbyes.
Feldman has since been a hostess and helped choose favors for other parties. Her goal
has been to provide gifts that could be both functional and memorable.
For a recent shower honoring her future sister-in-law, the choice was measuring spoons
imprinted with light-hearted, measured messages of love.
"Someone I knew had gotten a similar favor and made the suggestion," recalls Feldman
of Farmington Hills. "I searched different Web sites to find interesting spoon sets at reason-
able prices."
Regardless of the party - wedding, bridal shower, baby shower, birthday party, anniver-
sary celebration, bar or bat mitzvah - favors can add a special touch. They can be purely
practical, fun, sentimental or all three at the same time.
Gail Ball, a party planner who has arranged lavish soirees along tropical beaches and
intimate gatherings at local restaurants, searches for groups of useful favors that are
appropriate for the theme of the event and people being honored. She also likes it when
the budget allows for the favors to be personalized.
"Beautifully engraved silver and silver-plated boxes are wonderful for bridal showers
because they are elegant and can be used in many different ways," Ball says.
