to his internship, he'd only been to a few sporting events and concerts in Detroit.
"I think After 5 Detroit is a great and convenient tool for people to rekindle or find their
love for Detroit," he says. "I hate when my friends talk about how dirty or unsafe they per-
ceive Detroit to be when they haven't even experienced what the city has to offer.
"This site is an instrument in changing this perspective in my generation and creat-
ing some sort of revival. This is especially important with the poor economy in Michigan
because if people don't know about the fun side of a city, they probably won't want to live
or work here."

Through her business venture, Doman inadvertently became an advocate for Detroit. With
thousands of people in her social and professional network, she often finds herself in the
role of "cheerleader" for our city.
"So often we hear there's nothing to do and nowhere to go, no jobs, etc. It's a bad rap
and we're perpetuating that negative image," Doman says. "There are a lot of great things
happening around Detroit. You just have to dig a little deeper to find them."
Doman has her own personal favorites. For live jazz downtown, she sends people to the
refurbished old speakeasy, Cliff Dells; for brunch, she says you can't go wrong with Beverly
Hills Grill on Southfield Road just north of 13 Mile.
Her other standbys include Mosaic in Greektown for dinner, Delux Lounge in Detroit for
dancing, and Café Cortina in Farmington Hills for a "date night."
She's also launched a spinoff of her Web site called ConnectAfter5.com , designed to
attract and retain young professionals at Detroit-based businesses.
"We're providing fun, unique events for young professionals," Doman says. "Companies
sign up and their workers take part in the events free of charge.
"It's a great way for people to get together and network after hours. Even in this
economy, people grasp onto the fun, happy things they can. They still want to have a
good time."
