Sima's story also relates to the post- er Freedom From Want, which shows a family at a Thanksgiving dinner. The storyteller, a former librarian and media specialist with the Warren Fitzgerald School District, has been a professional presenter since 1987 and has had bookings at the DIA for nearly a decade. Other hosts of her programs have been the Jewish Community Center and Congregation Beth Shalom, both in Oak Park. Last year, Sima, an award-winner whose full appearance schedule can be found at www.judysima.com, made presentations at 50 sites. "Storytelling is a wonderful way to bring people together:' says Sima, who works from memory, adapts tales to the groups she is entertaining and includes audience members in some of her sessions. "I hope the stories give families a more expanded experience with the art forms they see at the museum. I also hope they can share their experiences after they leave and feel that what has been seen and heard gives them more opportunities for bonding." Many other special events — lec- tures, artist demonstrations, work- shops and more storytelling — will extend the ideas represented in the exhibit. Laurie Norton Moffatt, director of the Norman Rockwell Museum, will discuss the artist and his images during repeated sessions scheduled in the opening days of "American Chronicles!' Local artists will bring their own creativity to the themes of the four freedoms posters as the Rockwell showing continues. The opportunity for visitors to cre- ate personal family covers for mock- ups of the Saturday Evening Post will be scheduled frequently. A complete listing of supplementary programs can be found on the DIA Web site, www.dia.org. "My interest in Rockwell grew after I viewed an exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, especially since the curator was a professor I had and respected:' Penney says. "DIA view- ers will find that, in many ways, the everyday images show life as the artist wanted it to be."
