Zoup! Has opened in its newest
market: college campuses, specifi-
cally Oakland University.
The deal represents Zoup!'s first
license arrangement, said CEO and
co-founder Eric Ersher. The menu
will change daily with six soup offer-
ings, vegetarian, including dairy-
free, low-fat and gluten-free choices.
Nearly 15,000 people walk
through the Oakland Center daily,
according to Richard Fekel, director
of the Center, which is the student
union building. The food court
there now includes Zoup!. Patrons
include students, faculty and staff.
Oakland Center businesses run
the gamut from bookstores, a credit
union, hangout areas for students
and other food outlets managed
by Chartwells, the campus food
service provider, a division of
Charlotte-based Compass Group.
Zoup! is a Michigan company
which celebrated 10 years in busi-
ness in 2008. It owns and oper-
ates six corporate stores and 14
franchises throughout Michigan,
Pennsylvania and Ohio, with new
stores coming in Connecticut,
Indiana and New Jersey.
Chartwells provides dining ser-
vices for more than 875 colleges,
universities, public and private
schools around the country. It
has been a partner at Oakland
University since 2002.

On Friday, March 13,Temple Kol
Ami will offer the second in a series
of "Green" Shabbat services.
There will be a focus on the sec-
ond of the three R's for a greener
world, "Reuse."
Services will begin at 6 p.m., fol-
lowed by a discussion about corn-
posting. Resources and ideas for
getting started will be provided.
Attendees should bring gently
used children's books so that Kol
Ami can "reuse" them by donat-
ing them to the Detroit Jewish
Coalition for Literacy.
Green Shabbat is sponsored by
Temple Kol Ami's Social Action
Committee. There is no RSVP
required, but for more informa-
tion, contact the West Bloomfield
temple, www.tkolami.org or (248)
661-0040.
