How Experts Study Jews
Here's your chance to learn how the
experts study Jews today when the
Frankel Institute for Advanced Judaic
Studies at the University of Michigan
and the Jewish Forum of Detroit offer
a "Day at the Institute," a conference
on Sunday, March 29.
A group of scholars will gather as
fellows under the leadership of U-
M's Todd Endelman, William Haber
Professor of Modern Jewish History,
who proposed this year's theme,
"Studying Jews: New Topics, New
Methods, New Directions!"
"Just how do we study Jews these
days?" said Deborah Dash Moore,
Frankel Center director. "The ques-
tion begets other questions as Jewish
studies expands exponentially."
"The Jewish Forum's raison d'etre
as an independent organization
is the creation of significant and
substantive educational opportuni-
ties for Jewish adults — regardless
of religious orientation:' said event
organizer and Jewish Forum member
Iry Goldfein.
To register for this event, visit www.
thejewishforum.org before March 13.
The institute is at 202 S.
Thayer Street, Ann Arbor.
Congregation B'nai Moshe will host
the Cantors Assembly Gala Concert
on Tuesday, March 24.
Dinner with the cantors, by res-
ervation only, will be at 5:30 p.m.
followed by the concert at 7 p.m. and
an afterglow. The concert will pres-

Cantors Assembly and highlight
Cantors Assembly members from
other regions as well.

Temple Israel Purim Art
Temple Israel's Goodman Family
Judaic & Archival Museum is fea-
turing the exhibit "I Remember
Purim" (a visual narrative) by Molly
J. Schiff.
The art exhibit features paintings
in oil, acrylic and transparent water-
colors.
Schiff's colorful, contemporary
concepts reflect earliest childhood
memories at Sunday school based
upon the Purim story. The pictures
represent her interpretation of the
biblical Queen Esther story in two
parts: the cast of characters and the
story with important events.
A bright palette of traditional
spring colors, each work is playful in
its depiction of biblical figures. Each
reflects Purim as one of the most
joyous celebrations on the Jewish
calendar.
Schiff, a native Chicagoan, is a
graduate of the School of the Art
Institute of Chicago and an art
instructor.
Her works have been exhibited
throughout the U.S. and in Italy,
New Delhi and the Marshall Islands.
Her works are in private collections,
including the Illinois State Museum
and LUMA/Loyola University
Museum of Art Chicago. Her studios
are in Evanston, Ill., and in Mesa,
Ariz.
The exhibit "I Remember Purim"
will be on display in the Goodman
Family Judaic and Archival Museum
at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield
through April.
