than 45 years, Budson has played jazz
piano throughout Metro Detroit. He
also appeared on tour with Buddy
Rich's big band and with the Four
Tops and has backed such artists
as Henry Mancini, Mel Torme and
Sammy Davis Jr. Budson's wife, Ursula
Walker, is a unique stylist of bal-
lads, standards and jazz who makes
frequent appearances at the Detroit
International Jazz Festival.

question about the whereabouts of
his Jewish best friend, whose fam-
ily has been put on a train for the
camps during World War II.
Trouble on the Water is nomi-
nated for best full-length docu-
mentary. It tells the tale of a New
Orleans couple who were caught
up in the Hurricane Katrina
disaster and how they've tried to
recover. The co-director-writer-
producer is Tia Lessin, 44, the
daughter of a Holocaust survivor.
Lessin says, "What we saw on
TV were helpless victims or crimi-
nal looters. But the people depict-
ed in [my] film were survivors.
Because I knew survivors from the
Holocaust, I sensed these were

The Oscar for best picture goes to
the film's producers. Eric Feltner,
50, is one of the three produc-
ers of Frost/Nixon, a best picture
nominee. Feltner, a Brit, also pro-
duced Sixty Six, the story of a
British Jewish boy's bar mitzvah
that recently made it to DVD.
The Reader, about a German
woman (best actress nominee
Kate Winslet) who served as a
Nazi death camp guard, earned
five Oscar nominations, including
best picture. Sydney Pollack, the
film director-actor who died in
2008, is posthumously nominated
as one of the film's producers.
