ne minute, Suzi Terebelo of Southfield was part of the crowd at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek's B'nai Israel Center in West Bloomfield, sitting with her hus-
band, Bennett, and friends, Karen and Larry Katz of West Bloomfield. The
next, she was dancing around onstage and rushing to pick up
napkins she was convinced were $100 bills.
She was one of several brave souls who volunteered to be hyp-
notized by Bruce Pandoff of Saint Clair Shores during a Feb. 7
"adults only" program, which also included a Havdalah service,
coffee and desserts.
"I knew I was in the synagogue; I knew the rabbis and my
husband were there said Terebelo, describing the out-of-body
experience. "I do remember watching myself from the inside.
I was aware of the questions. It was like being half-drunk and
half-asleep."
Terebelo and the other volunteers had the crowd of about 70
people roaring with laughter. At one point, they were told to act
like body-builders. Then, Pandoff convinced them they were
physically unable to sit down.
"It was unbelievable said Tobye Bello of West Bloomfield, the synagogue's program
director. "I was a real skeptic, but I'm a believer now!"
Terebelo says she came out of the trance feeling a little bit tired. She says it was fun,
but next time, she'd rather be part of the crowd than of part of the show.
"I think the bottom line is that there's so much more to the mind than people realize,"
she said. "Everyone thinks they're so in control, but I think anybody could be hypno-
tized."
Also spotted in the crowd were: Evelyn and Fred Friedman of Farmington Hills,
Linda and Rick Cohen of Franklin, Charlene and Toby Haven of Bloomfield Hills and
Gail and Jerry Beale of West Bloomfield. _

Congregation Shaarey Zedek's next "adults only" program takes place Monday,
March 9; 27375 Bell Road, Southfield. The Purim Extravaganza includes a tra-
ditional Megillah reading at 7:30 p.m. followed by comedian David Glickman at
8:30 p.m. Free of charge. More information: (248) 357-5544.
