SNOWY SOIREE
Dining, music, family activities — all with a price-smart feel — return to
Campus Martius Park for the fifth annual Detroit Winter Blast. The event,
with some entertainment cutbacks due to the economy, still will offer free
ice-skating and concerts amid surroundings that showcase imaginative ice
sculptures. Marshmallow roasting helps participants warm up as they watch
professional and amateur skating exhibitions, experience any of 50 musical acts
on three stages or showcase their own talents through arts and crafts projects.
Scheduled for Feb. 6-8 and planned by Jonathan Witz, Detroit Winter Blast
runs 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Sunday. Festival-goers will enjoy food from about 10 restaurants and caterers,
as well as wine-tasting opportunities. More than 60 restaurants are offering
coupons worth 15-20 percent off meals to people accessing the event Web site,
where programming details are provided. (313) 963-8418. vvww.vvinterblast.com .
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT
Two shows at the Macomb Center for
the Performing Arts explore emotions
— romantic and otherwise. On Valentine's
Day, Feb. 14, Barbara Eden (I Dream of
Jeannie) and Hal Linden (Barney Miller)
perform Love Letters at 2 and 8 p.m. The
A.R. Gurney play, sometimes considered
a staged reading, traces the relationship of
two people through their correspondence,
starting in childhood and reaching into
later years. $35-$62. On the last day of
the month, Feb. 28, Steve Solomon show-
cases his comic take on the world with
My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish &
I'm in Therapy. The one-person comedy
relates stories through characterizations,
often with different vocal qualities and sound effects. Performances also begin
at 2 and 8 p.m. at 44575 Garfield, Clinton Township. $30-$40. (586) 286-
2222. wwwMacombArts@macomb.edu .
