Today, the worst water crisis in Israel's history has caused a dramatic drop in Israel's water supply. JNF's reservoirs, dams and water recycling centers free up enough water to meet the needs of 1.5 million Israelis each year. We are committed to building another 40 reservoirs over the next few years. JNF has the most effective response to Israel's water crisis. This is JNF. We are on the JVS employment specialist. Her husband, college-educated with a specialized degree, now is employed; but Leah says he has worked on and off the past few years. Leah said some of the places he has worked closed down and others couldn't pay him the salary he once received. ground working miracles every day for the people and land of Israel. Life Lessons Throughout their ordeal, Leah said, "There have been people who made us feel like we did something really, really wrong. My husband was asked what he was doing wrong in job interviews, and someone — without ever seeing our taxes — asked if we thought about filing for bankruptcy." Leah understands how difficult it is to ask for help. "If you're middle class and you're asking for help, sud- denly you are lower class;' she said. "And if we ask for help it's going against our own dream:' Still she encourages those who need it to seek it out. "If there are places out there that can give us help, shame, shame on anyone who points a finger when we ask for it:' Leah knows others who now are going through tough economic times. "I'm not enjoying the fact that I know other people who are joining into my awareness party:' she said. "Some who helped us a couple of years ago are now in their own bad situations. Once we start talking about it, it's like people are coming out of a secret box, sharing their stories:' And she understands how dif- ficult it all is on their children. "Our kids are used to not suffering but they quickly have to learn to bud- get:' Leah said. "A Slurpee isn't just a Slurpee anymore. It's a dollar. It adds up, and they take note of that." Leah is in awe of our Jewish community. "When my parents came here from Canada in the 1960s, there was barely any help for them to get started. And nobody reached out to them. Now the Detroit Jewish community is like family." And her positive attitude is passed on to her children. "The only control you have over your life is how you act:' she said. "I tell my kids that, and I believe it and fol- low it. "For me, it's not about the glass being half full or half empty. I'm just glad to have a glass."
