SEYMOUR I."SY" HENIG, 90, of

CAROL LYNN LEFTON, 48, of Sarasota,

Kensington, Md., died Jan. 12, 2009, after
a brief illness. He had lived at an assisted
living facility for the past year.
Born in Newark, N.J., he attended local
schools there and was a 1940 graduate of
Georgia Tech. He moved to the Washington
area in 1950 and eventually settled in
Kensington in 1954.
Mr. Henig was a longtime federal
employee. A World War II Navy veteran,
he was a civilian employee of the Navy
Department before moving to the old
Bureau of Standards [now the National
Institute of Standards and Technology.]
After a brief stint in private industry,
he returned to government service with
the Postal Service Research Institute, from
which he retired in 1986. He specialized
in materials handling and postal sorting
equipment.
In retirement, he devoted his energies
to developing a variety of inventions. He
spent years perfecting the design of a
skate-like personal transportation device
that was somewhat similar to in-line
skates, but was notable for its built-in
sophisticated braking mechanism. He also
developed a unique hurricane disruption
device that used an airborne drone towed
by a submarine to create counter currents
that would disrupt a hurricane's force.
Mr. Henig is survived by his two sons,
David (Bonnie) Henig of Sylvan Lake, Les
(Carol) Henig of Garrett Park, Md.; five
grandchildren, including Sara (Bradford)
McLouth, of Waterford; four great-grand-
children.
He was the husband for 49 years of the
late Fern Miller Henig.
Services were held in Maryland.
Contributions may be made to the Capital
Campaign at Temple Kol Ami in West
Bloomfield or to a charity of one's choice.
This announcement was placed at the
request of the family by Dorfman Chapel.

Fla., died Jan. 15, 2009.
She is survived by her husband, Dr.
Marc Lefton, formerly of Huntington
Woods; sons, Daniel and Jacob; mother,
Barbara (Jim) Glaser; father, Paul
(Marilyn) Feldman; brother, Samuel
Feldman; sister, Elizabeth Stonestreet;
loving in-laws, Barbara Lefton, Ray and
Ruth Lefton, Susan and Simcha Deutch,
Sara and Howard Koval.
She was the daughter-in-law of the late
Harold Lefton.
Contributions made be made to Tide
Well Hospice and Palliative Care, 5957
Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238-
5160.

CARL WARREN ORECKLIN, 72, of
Ann Arbor, died Jan. 22, 2009.
Mr. Orecklin is survived by his
brother and sister-in-law, Dr. James
and Philappa Orecklin of Los Angeles,
Calif.; nephews and nieces, Larry and
Sue Orecklin, Michele and Lance Gould,
David Orecklin and Shainna Orecklin;
great-nephew, Jordan Orecklin; great-
nieces, Samantha and Lucy Gould.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements were by Ira Kaufman
Chapel.
