Question:
What is airtime
and how is it billed?
Answer:
Airtime is the
actual time that a cell phone is
in use for a conversation. This
includes incoming and outgoing
calls. Airtime is usually billed by
the minute and starts the instant
you push 'SEND' until you push
`END'. When you sign a contract
with a carrier, you are agreeing
to pay for a certain amount of
minutes per month. If you go
under, most carriers do not roll
them into the next month. If you
go over, you will be billed a set
amount per minute over the con-
tract amount.
Calls that deduct from your
minutes include: toll free
numbers, checking voice mail,
leaving messages, and making
and receiving calls. Calls that
don't deduct from your minutes
include: busy signals, calling
people within your network (if
your rate plan allows), and calls
that don't go through. Calls you
might be able to get some credit
for: dropped calls (dependent
upon your carrier).
If you use your cell phone a
lot or don't want to keep track of
minutes, most carriers offer
Unlimited Plans. They cost a
little more but you don't have to
worry about overages.
