Family Focus Ask the Otthodonties T 0 V ! Ask the Orthodontist's Orthodontic Problems - Part 1 While true orthodontic emergencies are rare, occasionally a minor problem can pop up. What follows is Part 1 of a list of problems that may be encountered and the remedies for them. Broken Brace Mazel Toy! Sorkin-Topper Aug. 29 Randy and Kristi Sorkin-Topper of New York, formerly of Farmington Hills, are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Aaron Joseph Bager, son of Nancy Koretz-Bager and David Bager, will read from the Torah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Saturday, Jan. 10, as Bager he becomes a bar mitzvah. He is the brother of Rachel. Aaron attends Warner Middle School in Farmington Hills. He felt assisting in swimming lessons for young children at the Jewish Community Center was his most meaningful mitzvah project. Ian Geoffrey Miller (Iyar Priel) and Shelby Nicole Miller (Shani Michael) will be called to the Torah as a b'nai mitzvah on Saturday, Jan. 10, at received after Feb. 1. June 10 Rachel (Zager) and Darin Kanfer of Royal Oak are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Jenna Riley Kanfer Kanfer (Yehudit Bracha). Jenna is welcomed home by big broth- er Zachary. Proud grandparents are Michele Dubrinsky and Carl Hoff. She is also the grandchild of the late Max Dubrinsky, the late Judith Zager, the late Robert Zager and the late Edward Kanfer. Ian and Shelby are seventh-grade students at Norup International School Shelby Miller in Oak Park. For their mitzvah project, Ian and Shelby par- ticipated in many Farmington Hills- based JARC activities. If a brace breaks off of a tooth it can be left there if it is not uncomfortable to you. The most common cause of a broken brace is eating foods that are too hard or too sticky. Chewing on pens, pencil or fingernails may also cause a broken brace. Broken Wire Dr. Nelson Hersh and Dr. Marsha Beattie &gain, eating hard or sticky food can cause a re happens take a pair of nail clippers and cut the wire as close as possible to the next brace it is attached to. Often times it can be replaced with a pair of tweezers. If this is not possible please call our office so we can set up a time for you to run in and have it replaced. Poking Wire Tie Sometimes to secure the brace to the wire we twist a very small stainless steel ligature around it. It is possible for the twisted end of the ligature to move and start to feel sharp. If this happens simply use a pencil eraser to gently push it into a comfortable position.
