DR. ALBERT C.
RHODES, 92, of Oak
Park, died Dec. 29, 2008.
An optometrist,
he was discharged in
November of 1945 as a
pharmacist first class
from the U.S Coast
Rhodes
Guard.
An active volunteer with Shriners and
the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was also
a member of Congregation Beth Sholom
and a board member of B'nai Zion of
Chattanooga, Tenn. He was a member of
the Tennessee Optometric Association.
Dr. Rhodes is survived by his chil-
dren, Alicia and Rabbi David Nelson
of Southfield, Dr. Clayton and Janice
Rhodes, Selena and Malcolm Katz and Dr.
Harvey and Terri Rhodes; grandchildren,
Harry Nelson and Dorit Naftalin, Debra
Nelson, Reva Nelson, Daniel Kaplan, Zeke
Katz, Emily Katz, Allison Rhodes, Taylor
Rhodes, Micah Rhodes, Annie Rhodes and
Mira Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Ami,
Noa, Aiden and Leila Nelson, Levi and
Isaiah Kaplan; brother, Dr. Stanley Rhodes.

He is survived by his

Siller; brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Seymour
and Lorraine Soverinsky of Royal Oak;
brother-in-law, Marvin Fox; many loving
nieces, nephews, other family members
and friends.
Mr. Soverinsky was the dear brother of
the late Dorothy Fox.
Interment at the Clover Hill Park
Cemetery in Birmingham. Contributions
may be made to the University of
Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center or
to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements
by Dorfman Chapel.
ESTHER SPERBER, 64, of Farmington
Hills, died Dec. 31, 2008, after a valiant
battle with cancer.
Mrs. Sperber was, for more than 20
years, co-owner with her sister of Sally's
Design in West Bloomfield.
She was also a longtime active mem-
ber of ORT, National Council of Jewish
Women and Hadassah and was an avid
reader.
Mrs. Sperber was born in Windsor,
Ontario, and moved to Detroit when she
married.
She is survived by her husband,
William (Bill) Sperber; son Elliot Sperber
of New York; daughter, Jennifer Sperber;
brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bernard
and Barbara Lyons of Windsor; sister
and brother-in-law, Sally and Dr. Victor
Horvitz of Bloomfield Hills; sisters-in-
law and brothers-in-law, Henry and
Marika Sperber, Ronald Friedman, Lily
Sperber, Eileen Lyons; many loving nieces
and nephews.
Mrs. Sperber was the sister of the late
Leonard Lyons; loving sister-in-law of the
late Pearl and the late Jakab Herskovitz,
the late Rose Friedman, the late Jeno
Sperber.
