Washington/JTA — The Bush admin-
istration supports a three-pronged
cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
A State Department spokesman
told reporters Monday that any cease-
fire must include a halt to Hamas
rocket fire into Israel and an arrange-
ment for reopening crossing points on
the border with Israel, The Associated
Press reported.
Such an agreement also would
stop the smuggling of arms into
Gaza through tunnels in Egypt, said
spokesman Sean McCormack.
The United States, along with
Britain, rejected a United Nations
Security Council draft agreement
over the weekend that called for an
immediate cease-fire and expressed
concern about Israel's operation. The
statement, which had been submit-
ted by Libya representing the Arab
League, made no mention of Hamas
rocket attacks on Israel.

Mumbai Victims' Son Dies
Jerusalem/JTA — The son of a
Chabad couple killed last month in
Mumbai has died.
Dov Holtzberg, the 4-year-old son
of Chabad emissaries Gavriel and
Rivka Holtzberg, died Dec. 30 of the
genetic disease. He was buried next
to his parents and older brother, who
also died of the same disease two
years ago.
Dov had been living in a long-term
care facility in Jerusalem. Jan. 1 marks
the end of the 30-day mourning peri-
od for Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg,
killed during terrorist attacks by
Islamic gunmen on Mumbai,
including the Chabad House.

Washington/JTA — Al Franken has
been declared the winner of the U.S.
Senate race in Minnesota, but Norm
Coleman will challenge the results in
court.
The Minnesota canvassing board
certified the Democratic challenger
as the winner over Coleman, the
Republican incumbent, after a con-
troversial two-month long recount
process. Franken prevailed by 225
votes out of 2.9 million cast. Both
candidates are Jewish.
Franken subsequently declared vic-
tory in a speech in St. Paul. Franken
told reporters, "There may still be
additional legal proceedings related
to our recount. But I'm now in the
business of serving the people of
Minnesota."
