Harry Richman of Omaha, Neb.,
Mildred and Edward Rosenbaum of
West Bloomfield and the late David
Spinner.
Avishai is a seventh-grade student
at Smith Middle School in Chapel
Hill, N.C. For his mitzvah project, he
is working with a teenage refugee to
assimilate into the community by
helping him with homework, learning
English and exploring his new home.

Saturday, Dec. 27,
at Adat Shalom
Synagogue in
Evan Otis
Farmington Hills to
honor the memory
of his brother Evan who died in 1998
at age 21/2, and, had he lived, would
have celebrated his bar mitzvah on
that date.
Also participating in the service
were Evan's other siblings, Kyle Otis,
11, and Camryn Otis, 9.
Brad is a junior at Michigan
State University, and Kyle and
Camryn attend Hillel Day School in
Farmington Hills. Bonnie and David
Otis watched their children with pride
as they honored Evan's memory.

Fernandes, former

president of Gleaners
Fernandes
Community Food
Bank in Detroit. The award is given
annually in honor of outstanding
commitment and service to the fight
against hunger.
Fernandes had been the president of
Gleaners since 2002.
