Allir • At, Age Possibly one of the first individu- als served by JARC with a full-time job back then, Feldman had to be introduced to the concept of a reg- ular paycheck. He relished working and earning his own money, but it took him a while to understand why Uncle Sam took some of his pay. He saved his wages frugally. Trip Of A Lifetime Feldman often spoke of visiting Israel, but it wasn't until Herb Kaufman of the chapel suggested he should travel there using some of his job savings that dreams became reality. "My wife and I were going to Israel on the First Miracle Mission, leading the Beth El bus',' Kaufman said. "I encouraged Jacob to come and, fortunately, JARC was able to work it out. Afterwards, he was so thrilled he had gone and loved to tell people about his trip. I can still see the pride and accomplishment on his face as he put a message in the Western Wall in Jerusalem!' Although a JARC staff person accompanied Feldman to Israel, Kaufman also kept an eye out for his welfare. JARC made a special movie of his trip. Feldman says. "JARC treats me very well and I get along with people. The people at Ira Kaufman always treated me well. It was a good job, but I am retired now." His favorite activities include watching television and mov- ies, playing bingo and checkers, numbers, relaxing, participating in JARC programming and going on outings. He is social and has a girl- friend. He eats kosher, with cheese pizza his food of choice. He doesn't ride on Shabbat. He keeps his room, which he shares with another man, very neat and has a display of Jewish items. Feldman's rhyming jokes are sparked by a word in someone's conversation, such as "free." "If we get it free, we can drink tea," he said, then added, "I'm just kidding." Herb Kaufman sums things up, "Although Jacob will be missed, his dedication to his faith and job secures a remarkable legacy for JARC, himself and the chapel." ❑ 29 mpg's) Free Scheduled Maintenance The All-New 2008 9-3 Aero Sports Sedan SAVE $15,214!
