Children create masterpieces for Jewish News contest.

ractice makes perfect for Amanda
Goldfaden of Southfield. The third-grader
at Greenfield Elementary School in Beverly
Hills has had her artwork displayed twice previously
in the Jewish News as an "honorable menstshen" in
the annual Chanukah Art Contest. But the 8-year-
old took the top prize this year by using art supplies
she always has around her home.
The daughter of Abby and David Goldfaden com-
posed a menorah from dyed mailing peanuts as
the base, construction paper for the candles and
background, aluminum foil for the candleholders and
yarn for the flames.
Amanda's brother, Joshua, 10, is a winner with
his sister this year, as one of the contest's honor-
able menstshen. When he was 4, he won the 6-and-
younger age group. "Both are very creative," says
their mother, Abby.
Amanda decided it would be nice to make her
menorah colorful because winter is "so grey and
white." ❑

ner) will each receive $18.
For those who wish to retrieve
their contest entries, they are
available at the Jewish News
office through Jan. 9. Yeshivat
Akiva entries will be available
through the school.
The winners shown on these
pages will also be displayed
on our Web site, JNonline.us ,
through the end of Chanukah,
Dec. 29.
