Lazare's Wrap It Up Sale DIGEST Owners Sharon & Paul Twigg Gifts For Children Thanks to the generosity of the Etkin Family Holiday Endowment Fund and Yad Ezra volunteers, Helen Etkin, Addie Levine and Harvey Goldstein, 600 age-and-gender appropriate gifts are being distributed to children of cli- ent families. According to Etkin, the fund was "created as a way of remembering Ben (her father) and the joy he had in giv- ing gifts." Children's novels, drawing pads, markers, coloring pencils, cray- ons and craft projects are being orga- nized and bagged by a crew of volun- teers. A gift certificate from Meijer's, a donation of Crayola products and some individual donors' contributions helped fund the project, which will be distributed to the children in time for Chanukah. Other families have stepped forward as well to donate other gifts that Yad Ezra will hand out. In addition, Yad Ezra client fami- lies will receive a special Chanukah package this year thanks to the annual appeal that raises funds so that everyone in our community can celebrate the holiday. This year, client families are receiving the traditional fare (lathes and applesauce, candles and chocolate gelt) along with salamis, mustard, pickles and bread. Yad Ezra, a Berkley-based indepen- dent organization, receives no fed- eral or state funding. The 501 (c) (3) agency relies on the generosity of indi- viduals, businesses and groups in the community to provide the funds nec- essary to distribute more than 800,000 pounds of free groceries every year. Addie Levine of Farmington Hills dis- plays gift contributions.
