For example, Joel Must explained,
"we distribute a well-known national
brand like Land O'Lakes butter. We
also offer Dairy Fresh brand butter.
In some cases, our Dairy Fresh brand
item could be made in a plant owned
by the same company that makes the
comparable national brand.
"Land O'Lakes butter could be dis-
played side by side in a store's dairy
counter with the Dairy Fresh brand.
The latter typically sells for a lower
retail price, which is something that
consumers appreciate, especially dur-
ing these difficult economic times."

Mary's Way
Mary has been working in the busi-
ness for more than 60 years in one
capacity or another, including 48 of
the 58 years that she was married to
Mike. She's still at it — with no formal
title — making the long trek from her
Bloomfield Township home to Taylor a
few days a week.
"I love working; it really keeps
me going:' she enthused. nd I still
love to drive. My sons got me a new
Cadillac recently and it makes the long
trip easier."
Mary oversees all of the Dairy Fresh
accounts, and keeps a keen eye on the

accounts receivable and accounts pay-
able. "I call people in case we get any
bad checks:' she said. "I also do a lot
of the bookkeeping work at home if I
can't make it into the office
Despite her work schedule, she finds
plenty of time to devote to Jewish
charities and activities.
"Our family is thankful for the sup-
port shown our business by the Jewish
community, and we've always believed
in giving back. We're very happy to do
so," she said.
Mary was honored at Southfield-
based Kadima's annual fundraiser
back in September. She donated the
22nd Kadima home, which will be
named for her late granddaughter,
Miya Jo Must.
"Kadima is one of the finest orga-
nizations in the community, and I'm
proud to be associated with it," Mary
said. Kadima serves individuals with
mental disabilities.
Mary also has purchased two ambu-
lances for the American Red Magen
David for Israel, the American arm
serving Israel's national ambulance
and rescue service and a multipurpose
room and computer room at Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan Detroit.
For many years, she has extensively
supported the Jewish Federation's
Annual Campaign, Israel Bonds, the
Jewish National Fund, the Shaare
Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, the
Bloomfield Township-based Hebrew
Free Loan Association, and other ser-
vice and humanitarian organizations
and causes.

Grandma's Fruit

"Grandma's fruit" is a defining
activity of Mary Must's role as
matriarch of both the Must fam-
ily and the family business, Dairy
Fresh Foods.
Almost every day that she
comes in to work at the compa-
ny's Taylor office, she cuts up
quantities of assorted fresh fruit,
puts them into individual serving
containers and brings them to the
office for the enjoyment of her
sons and grandson - plus office
personnel in general.
After eating the fruit, they
must rinse and return her con-
tainers that same day, or with
the next day's delivery of work
papers to her house, so that the
fruit cycle can continue with her
next office visit.
