I

n downtown Birmingham, sis-
ters Karen and Cheryl Daskas
celebrated the 15th anniversary
of their women's specialty boutique,
Tender, with a daylong open house on
Nov. 20. Since its 1993 opening, Tender
has doubled in size, now spanning

the original 3,000-square-foot apparel
store and its adjacent 5,000-square-
foot shoe and handbag shop. The store,
at 271 W. Maple, carries European and
American designer collections, all of
which are exclusive to Metro Detroit
and Michigan.

ORT Offers Jobs Course
The David B. Hermelin ORT Resource
Center is the recipient of a $5,000
grant from Charter One Foundation
to support ORT's Better Job
Opportunities (BJO) Program.
The 12-week BJO course is offered
free, to unemployed and underem-
ployed individuals from throughout
the Metropolitan Detroit community.
BJO graduates earn certification in
Microsoft Office Suite, which greatly
enhances their employability.
The Hermelin ORT Resource Center
is located in the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield. In addition

to BJO, Hermelin ORT provides com-
puter skills training to educators; tech-
nical and hardware support services;
digital movie making camps; special
interest classes (online retailing and
QuickBooks); video creation and film
transfer services.
Charter One Foundation is a chari-
table contributions vehicle of Charter
One Bank. The foundation's support
is focused on housing, commu-
nity development and basic human
needs.
Applications for both evening
and daytime BJO classes are being
accepted.
