One day, a man from Convair heard
her sing and he offered her the job with
Convair. She became an active member
in her union local. She loved fighting on
behalf of her co-workers. She was very
proud of having met Cesar Chavez.
She traveled with family and friends to
many different parts of the world. In June
2008 she celebrated her 80th birthday with
the first birthday party of her life, attend-
ed by over 80 people from many parts of
the country. All who knew her loved her.
Ms. Pollack is survived by her sister,
Gertrude Strom Kosowsky of Phoenix,
Ariz.; brothers and sister-in-law, Harold
and Shirley Strom of Southfield and David
Strom of San Diego; many loving nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Ms. Pollack was buried at Beth El
Cemetery in Phoenix.

DR. OSCAR D. SCHWARTZ , 97, of
Bloomfield Hills, died Nov. 22, 2008.
A retired dermatologist in the Detroit
and Southfield areas, he graduated from

the University of Michigan Medical
School in 1934. From 1942 to 1946, he
served as a lieutenant colonel in the
Army Medical Corps. A board member
for many years of the Fresh Air Society,
he also worked as a tutor for the Literacy
Volunteers of Detroit.
Dr. Schwartz is survived by his daughter
and son-in-law, Ellen and Jeoffrey Stross
of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Wendy and
Van Katzman and Jonathan Stross; great-
grandchildren, Jack Dylan Katzman and
Carly Elizabeth Katzman; loving compan-
ion of 14 years, Jule Berman.
He was the beloved husband of the late
Beatrice Abrams Schwartz and the late
Lillian Kaplan Schwartz; the loving broth-
er and brother-in-law of the late Harry
and the late Bertha Schwartz, the late Rose
and the late David Sugar, the late Cyrille
and the late Albert Friedman and the late
Meyer Schwartz.
Interment at Beth El Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to the Fresh
Air Society, Oscar D. Schwartz M.D. Clinic,
6735 Telegraph Suite 380, Bloomfield Hills,

NOLAN SHAW, 71, of Birmingham, died
Nov. 17.
He is survived by his brothers and
sister-in-law, Michael and Mimi Shaw of
West Bloomfield, Edward Shaw of West
Bloomfield.
Mr. Shaw was the son of the late Irwin
and the late Lillian Shaw.

RUTH SILLS, 85, of West Bloomfield, died
Nov, 21, 2008.
She is survived by her son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Steven and Cheryl Sills of
Pennsylvania; daughter and son-in-law,
Betsy and Richard Eaton of Orchard Lake;
grandchildren, Amy and Anthony Watts,
Julie Sills and fiance, Mitch Cepler, Kirk
and Beth Eaton, Mara and Mike Banier;

great-grandchildren, Brooke and Bradley
Eaton, Jeffrey and Alana Banier; sister,
Thelma Elson.
Mrs. Sills was the beloved wife of the
late Lewis Sills.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to a char-
ity of one's choice. Arrangements by Ira
Kaufman Chapel.

MOLLIE WHITEMAN, 94, of Farmington,
died Nov., 18, 2008.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. Alan and Sharron
Whiteman of Coral Springs, Fla.; daughter
and son-in-law, Ruth and Kenneth Marsh
of Farmington; grandchildren, Michael,
Andrew and Lauren Whiteman, Matthew
and Priscilla Wrosch, Mitchell Wrosch;
great-granddaughter, Aviva Naomi
Wrosch; niece and nephew, Arlene and
Couglas Pierce.
Interment at Beth Abraham Cemetery.
