The bride's parents, Jeanne and Sy Birnbaum, and the groom's parents, Lloyd and Arlene Starr, carried the chuppah. The bride's children, Jill and Jeff Baskin, gave her away. The bride's attendants were best friend Gail Elkus and sister-in-law Wendy Starr. The best man was the groom's brother Brian Starr. Junior bridesmaids were niece Jayme Starr and the bride's god- daughter Samantha Elkus. Flower girl was niece Erin Starr. The couple continued their celebration at Mario's restaurant in Detroit where the groom, an avid Red Wings fan, also celebrated the latest Stanley Cup win. Michael is a 2002 graduate of Novi High and is a 2006 graduate of the University of Michigan, majoring in psychology and minoring in philosophy. After graduating Michigan, he has been attending Michigan State University and will finish his master's degree in sports psychology. Starting in the fall, he plans to get his Ph.D. in educational psychology. Maureen graduated from Novi High in 2004 and Michigan State in 2008. She was a starter on the MSU Women's Soccer Team. She will be seeking a teaching position in the fall. A May 2009 wedding is planned. Rabbi Marla Hornsten of Temple Israel, West Bloomfield, officiated. Ali is the daughter of Ron and Betsy Spalter of Farmington Hills and Jeremy is the son of Marc and Marcia Manson, also of Farmington Hills. Ali's two sisters, Emily and Sara Spalter, were the maids of honor along with brides- maids Carrie Levin, Emily Dovitz, Annette Gajda, Stacey Shild and Randi Manson. Jeremy's brother, Benjamin Manson, was the best man along with groomsmen Jesse Bernstein, Jay Mentzel, Mike Canner, Brian Malley and David Malley. Ali and Jeremy were honored to have their grandmothers Suzanne Kaine, Gerrie Spalter, Sara Manson and Norma Tureff participate in the wedding as well. Remembered with love were Henry Kaine, Myron Spalter, Sheldon Manson and Seymour Tureff, grandfathers of the bride and groom. Also remembered with love was Matthew Lash, best friend and best man. The couple spent two wonderful weeks in Hawaii on their honeymoon and reside in Chicago.
