BBYO Fall Conclave brings teens together.

There were mixed emotions in the air at Tamarack Camps in Ortonville. The seniors were upset

when they realized this was their last Fall Conclave; the freshman were excited to start their jour-

ney regionally in B'nai B'rith Youth Organization; and the sophomores and juniors were thrilled to

be with their friends for an amazing weekend Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

Coordinators Alina Post, a junior at North Farmington, and Jared Sklar, a senior at Walled Lake

Western, put together an outstanding and educational weekend. International Godol (AZA Presi-

dent) Evan Herron joined us.

The theme was "be nobody but

yourself." Friday night, there were

many icebreakers that helped the

new members meet people. We

woke up Saturday morning and put

on our spirit wear — chapter shirts

and colors. After services, there

were programs, including the guide

to BBYO programming, Judaism,

recreation, social action, sister-

hood/fraternity, community service

and creativity. We learned about

different Torah stories through in-

teractive stations. Things got seri-

girls were separated for a special

tradition called "separates." This is a serious program where teens discuss issues important to

them and share from the heart. Candles are set around the room and, for the girls, many tears

are cried as people talk.

After separates, everyone came back together for a special icebreaker activity led by a profes-

sional. "It was a great experience," said Danielle Fink, a sophomore at North Farmington and

member of Koach BBG #345. "He really knew what he was doing. He was hilarious. He knew

exactly how to get the crowd going."

As the weekend slowly came to an end, BBYO members came together for a friendship circle.

The weekend ended with the traditional separation of the boys from the

girls while we each cheered our separate cheers. However, this year BBYO

came together and cheered Michigan Region cheers before we got on the
