A Glimpse Of History
Dr. Mitchell Cappell will be the speaker
at a dinner sponsored by Young Israel
of Southfield Sunday, Nov. 23, at 6. p.m.
at the Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield.
Cappell, chief of gastroenterology at
William Beaumont Hospital in Royal
Oak, will display and explain the
importance of a number of original
documents in is collection of Judaica
relating to historical events, including
the Holocaust and the founding of the
State of Israel.
The presentation is titled "Jewish
Triumphs Through Trying Times."
The dinner will feature French cui-

Jewish Muslim Ties
On Friday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. Temple
Kol Ami in West Bloomfield will host a
special Shabbat worship service.
As part of a Weekend of Twinning,
Rabbi Roman and Imam Mohammad
Mardini will address prejudices and
misconceptions and try to build an
ongoing relationship of working togeth-
er on issues of mutual concern.
This weekend is under the spon-
sorship of the Foundation for Ethnic
Understanding in New York, the
American Muslim Center of Dearborn
and Temple Kol Ami.
At least 25 mosques and synagogues
across North America will join in a
discussion on the theme "Confronting

In November 2007, the imam and
Rabbi Roman represented the Metro
Detroit community at a national
seminar in New York City, at which the
idea for this year's programming was
developed.
Linking the need for mutual under-
standing and respect with the themes
of the American Thanksgiving celebra-
tion, the participants agreed to initiate
opportunities for congregations to
learn about and with each other. .

Na'amat Donor Luncheon
The Greater Detroit Council of Na'amat
USA will hold its annual donor lun-
cheon Wednesday, Nov. 19, noon at Adat
Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.

celebrate the 60th
Penny Steyer
anniversary of the
