Apel T he Jean and Samuel Frankel Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit is mak- ing history with its fall musical, The Wedding Singer, based on the film by the same name, says Mitch Master, director of the Performing and Visual Arts Department. "We are the first high school in Michigan and the third high school in the country to produce this new musical;' said Master, director of the musical. "The students have been so excited about every rehearsal. Everyone is enjoying their roles and making the most of their parts. It has been a very positive experience over all. It will be hard to top this year's musical produc- tion:" Junior C.J. Apel plays rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart, who is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer and has always been the life of the party — until his own fiancee Linda, the psycho-rocker chick, played by sopho- more Molly Goldsmith, leaves him at the altar. Julia Sullivan, a new waitress that works at the banquet hall, played by senior Rina Bergman, helps Robbie during his low times and slowly wins his affection. There is a problem: Julia is engaged to be married to a first-class jerk from Wall Street, Glen Guglia, played by junior Basil Williams. If they marry, that would make Julia's new name Julia Guglia; that, too, is a prob- lem. This 1980s love story will take you back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and the wedding singer just might be the coolest guy in the room. There are only four performances: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, and Thursday, Nov. 20; 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22; and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 in Handleman Hall at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. General admission is only $15. For tickets, call (248) 592- 5263. ❑ embers of N'sheekot BBG had fun assisting with the Friendship Circle's Sukkot pro- gram on Sunday, Oct. 19. The program was held at two homes in Huntington Woods. Each home had a sukkah in the back yard with a variety of activities for the kids to do and watch. Chapter members were each assigned to a child and their family. We had a lot of fun interacting with the kids and helping them with their various arts and crafts projects. This event also provided our chapter members a chance to learn more about ourselves. We chose to volunteer at this event as part of our com- munity service efforts and look forward to working with the Friendship Circle throughout this upcoming year. ❑ Rachael Vettese, 16, is a sophomore at Bloomfield Hills Andover High School.
