■ platinum plates Adventures In Dining Fill your tummy with comfort-inducing foods and more at Metro Detroit destinations. BY LISA BRODY What's your idea of comfort food? A creamy bowl of macaroni and cheese with a side of potato chips? Stick-to-your-ribs food like meadoaf, rotisserie chicken or short ribs? A simple, juicy steak? Luckily for us, restaurants around town can sat- isfy all of our culinary cravings. The menu at Uptown Grille on West Maple in Commerce Township is designed to please an array of tastes — from those who choose pizza to people who prefer a Black Angus steak. In between, you'll find ribs, rotisserie chicken, chops, nine different hamburg- ers, fish and chips, sandwiches, salads and a wide array of appetizers — all in a 14,000-square-foot dining and entertainment venue. NOMI, the chic restaurant in Novi that opened then closed, has reopened on Main and Center in Northville Square, with a focus on upscale contemporary French/American fare and background jazz music. II, Posto Ristorante in Southfield is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a refreshed interior, a new facade and a beautiful outdoor patio. Chef Matte° Giuffrida also has created a few new dishes to commemo- rate the anniversary. ICalamata Greek Cafe, located at 3149 Crooks just north of Big Beaver Road in Troy, is more than a just a place to grab a coney. While din- ers will certainly find all the traditional Greek dishes — pita sandwiches, gyros and salads — they'll also find house- made phyllo-wrapped spinach pies, pastitsio (a Greek version of lasagna) and other delicious Greek dishes in a Ron Rea-designed restaurant. Eastern Market provides more wonderful destinations for culinary aficionados. Supino, at 2457 Russell, is a 26-seat restaurant offering authentic Italian pizzas — from tradi- tional pies and white pizzas with no sauce to nontraditional pizzas with toppings such as eggplant and capers. Ingredients are from Eastern Market merchants, of course. Opening next door at 2453 Russell is Taste of Ethiopia, which also has a location in Southfield. And Detroit soon will be home to the casually elegant contemporary steak and seafood restaurant chain Finn and Porter, which will anchor the Fort Shelby Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel when it opens down- town at the end of the year. If you've been craving Fox & Hounds' delicious pastries since the restaurant closed last year, you can satisfy your sweet tooth at Fox & Hounds Pastry Den, located on Orchard Lake Road at Lone Pine Road, in Crosswinds Plaza. It's a dessert-lover's paradise.
