Rabbi Shmuley Boteach
will be here.
And you're invited.

Eileen and Jerry Borsand

Cohen said. "The Baal Shem Tov was
about people. People come to the
Chai Center and find a warm, sincere
environment without any agendas!'
The Chai Center offers, aside
from weekly Shabbos services (and
killer cholent), a collection of unique
programming, from classes at the
public library, to the Dream Cruise
Shabbaton and Lag b'Omer bar-
beques.
The Cohens see Boteach, widely
known for his outspoken approach
to relationships and controversial
topics, as an ideal match for the Chai
Center's debut dinner as he is argu-
ably a symbol for this new sort of
"unorthodoxy" — a movement of
people looking for truth rather than
ideology.
"He's outside the dogma box,
Cohen said. "He takes on public
issues from a moral perspective. I'm
not aware of anyone else doing that.
He's created a career for himself,
and uses it as a vehicle for spiritual
light — and the use of one's life for
creative spiritual expression is some-
thing we like to promote."
It's the Cohens' hope that this din-
ner will be the harbinger of a new
era for the Chai Center — where
people know how to find the nucleus
of Jewish life in Birmingham, and a
place where everyone, no matter their
affiliation, can experience Judaism
and ride the spiritual tide. 117!
