Fabulous Food

Why being a "Jewish Princess"
is actually a great thing.

L

ondoners Tracey Fine and
Georgie Tarn give this bit of
advice to women everywhere:
You can look lovely and enjoy life and
come up with a great meal in no time.
The Jewish Princess Cookbook: Having
Your Cake and Eating It ... offers a
collection of simple and fun kosher
recipes.

Q: `Jewish princess" usually conjures
a negative image. Your book, though,
puts a positive spin on the idea.
A: It was time to reclaim the "Jewish
princess" and re-brand her for the 21st
century, to make her positive, produc-
tive and princess-like in everything
she does — to show that a Jewish
princess can have her cake, eat it but
look like she hasn't!

Q: You both work- full time and have
families. Do you still prepare dinner
every night, and when cooking, do you
look like glamorous Jewish princesses?
A: If you follow the recipes in our
book, you can still have time to have
your hair and nails done and maybe
fit in a spot of work, too. We are all
so busy in this hectic world of ours;
but we know that food lies at the
very heart of Jewish life, and having a
homemade meal on the table is very
important to us.
Therefore, when we wrote the book
all the recipes had to be quick and
easy with mostly less than 10 ingre-
dients. Remember, though, if you do
have an extremely busy schedule com-
ing up, make double quantities and
use your freezer.
Looking glamorous in the kitchen,
of course, we always don our pink
Jewish Princess aprons. Also, train-
ing your junior JPs is a must so they
can make the odd soup or cake (it all
helps). Plus, they will be able to cook
for you in your old age.

Q: In addition to your yummy reci-
pes, you offer a chapter on the "ulti-
mate" Shabbat dinner. Invite us! What
would it be like?

A: We both love entertaining, and
there is nothing nicer than welcom-
ing guests over to sample a Jewish
Princess Friday night dinner.
Be warned: You better be hungry. We
will be starting with chopped liver, egg
and onion (don't forget the pickles and
olives), followed by chicken soup mit
lockshen and knaidlach — and if you
are lucky, golden eggs. Then a classic
roast chicken with all the trimmings
and for dessert: lockshen pudding,
chocolate mousse and fruit salad.
Then if you have room after this
feast: a few homemade chocolates to
accompany your lemon tea. We will
even send you home with a goody bag.
Now isn't that Princess Perfect! ❑
