HAZZAN LARRY VIEDER z"1
It is with profound sadness that the membership of the Cantors Assembly joins with the Vieder family and Adat
Shalom Synagogue in mourning the loss of a most remarkable man, Hazzan Larry Vieder. The Cantors Assembly
has lost one of its pillars, a senior statesman and a person of great wisdom who often served as our compass. In the
sixty year history of the Cantors Assembly, only three non past presidents were awarded lifetime positions on our
board of directors. As a demonstration of our enormous respect for him, Larry was one of those three hazzanim.
Larry set an example for his younger colleagues to emulate through his scholarship and compassion for others.
He so loved the Cantors Assembly that he became one of our most prolific fundraisers. In fact, no one ever raised
more money for the Cantors Assembly than Larry Vieder. Countless good deeds have been performed over the
years by the Cantors Assembly, promoting Jewish values for klal yisrael, because of the funds raised by Larry
Vieder. Numerous cantonal students were able to afford their JTS educations because of Larry's mitzvot and
perseverance.
As news of Larry's passing began to reach our colleagues, words of praise for him appeared on our Internet
discussion group. One hazzan noted the Hoshanot prominently recited on Sukkot. We pray to God, "Help us."
Help us with our grief as we mourn the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, shliach tsibbur and friend.
Another hazzan compared Larry to the etrog and its beautiful fragrance. Sukkot is known as z'man simchateinu,
the time of our rejoicing. Yet the gladness of many was greatly diminished on this yore toy.
May his soul be bound up in the bond of eternal life and may his memory be an enduring inspiration in all of our
lives. T'hi Nishmato Tsrurah Bitsror Hachayim.
