blinds, skylights and light bulbs.
The Hotkes bought a spec home
nine years ago and finally got tired
of looking at the same bland light-
ing fixtures day after day. They set-
tled on pendant lighting for their
kitchen after watching more than
their share of HDTV and visiting
more than their share of modern
homes.
Along the way, they noticed that
bathroom lighting products had
changed, with a much wider selec-
tion of fixtures. "You can buy retro,
modern, middle-of-the-road, but
before that, all I ever saw was really
modern:' Terry Hotke says.
Once the couple settled on the
kitchen pendants, they realized the
white light over their kitchen sink
did not blend with the amber color
of the pendants and replaced the
sink fixture.
What started out as a simple
desire to upgrade a small portion
of their home turned into a signifi-
cant upgrade.
"We just wanted to get rid of
the ugly thing over our island and
it snowballed and it was the right
thing to do for aesthetics:' Terry
Hotke says. "We like things to
blend!' ❑
