Dr. Arieh Eldad with Hillel Day School seventh- and eighth-graders.
israeli perspective
Knesset member discusses the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
r. Arieh Eldad, a member of the right-wing National Union Party of
the Israeli Knesset, came to Hillel Day School of Metropolitan De-
troit in Farmington Hills on Sept. 19. During his visit, he spoke to the
seventh and eighth grades about his job and his views on the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict. His party supports settlements and is against a two-state solution.
He asked the students: "What are we fighting for?" Then he explained, "It is
a conflict about the actual presence of Jews in the Land of Israel." He says that
giving the Palestinian Arabs a state would be one of the worst things that Israel
could do. He gave the Gaza Strip as an example. Nearly every day for more
than seven years, the Palestinians in Gaza have fired missiles into the nearby
Israeli cities and kibbutzim.
Dr. Eldad also created a youth group in Israel that teaches how giving the
Palestinians a state would affect Israelis. He pointed out that even people far
away want to kill the Jews; however, now that Israel has the Israeli Defense
Forces, Israel can do things to prevent their plans.
This member of the Israeli Knesset was able to come to Hillel because of
the work of StandWithUs, a Los Angeles-
based Israel advocacy and education group.
The students appreciated Dr. Eldad coming
to speak about the Israeli perspective on the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
