The last time he asked to sing
a number with Simone Vitale's
band, Franklin Athletic Club, Southfield,
head with son Rick Brode, and former
Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
co-founder and past president, Seymour
Brode was president of Knollwood
Country Club, West Bloomfield ... At that
time's President's Ball, he got Simone's
okay and got up to sing "Agua Caliente" ...
Little by little, guests quietly left the room,
except wife, Dee Brode, cute trooper that
she is, and nobody remained on the dance
floor either.
It was a laugh now to remember for
Seymour and Simone as they remi-
nisced at the recent Heart To Heart du

Peter Ministrelli Women's Heart Center at
Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, and devel-
opment of a new Women's Heart Center at
Beaumont, Grosse Pointe.
Almost 400 guys and gals lucked out
with beautiful 70-degree weather in the
outdoor setting of yesteryears and com-
fortable indoors where folks lined up for
vittles re-created in valiant attempts from
menus of Joe Muer's (seafood and veg-
etarian), Lelli's Detroit (pasta), Hudson's
(Maurice Salad), London Chop House
(beef tenderloin), Sanders (ice cream
and toppings) and pastries like at Fox &
Hound's Pastry Den.
Simone's group played music mostly
from the 1920s, '30s and '40s, some people
wore garb of those years, styles were dis-
played in showcases and autos were from
Ministrelli's collection.

Dennis Green ... "On the morning of Rosh
Hashanah, Rabbi Feldman noticed little
Max standing in the foyer of the syna-
gogue staring up at a large plaque covered
with names on either side. The 6-year-old
had been staring at it for some time, so the
rabbi walked up and said quietly, 'Baker
toy [Good morning], Max."Boker tov,
Rabbi Feldman; he replied, still focused
on the plaque. 'What is this?' he asked. The
rabbi put his arm around Max's shoulder
and said, 'Well, son, it's a memorial to all
the young men and women who died in
the service.' Which service, Rabbi ... Rosh
Hashanah or Yom Kippur?'"
