An

older citizens tend to have
utritional concerns that
both overlap and differ from that
of the general population. The
most common nutritional disor-
der among older Americans (not
unlike the general population) is
obesity. Adult undernutrition is
also a significant issue.

C

'\ Good nutrition is relevant
to such elderly health
1.../, ) problems/diseases as
) hypertension, congestive
/
heart failure, diabetes,
elevated blood lipids,
coronary disease, os-
teoporosis, malignan-
cies, and renal failure.

Add to the foregoing vi-
tamin/mineral issues, im-
munity concerns, appetite
and hunger issues, digestive
problems, and special dietary
needs, and you get a sense of the
complexity of the nutritional is-
sues facing our older population.

My recommendation: become as
knowledgeable as you can about
nutrition in general and your
particular nutritional needs as a
senior. At Integrated Nutrition,
we offer individual nutritional
counseling and large and small
group opportunities to learn in
depth about these issues.
