The Golden Mushroom restaurant in Southfield had been, since opening in 1972, the first spot in the area to have a salad bar, but its sumptuous Lettuce Bin was no more, discontinued to utilize space for the Mushroom's enlarged wine storage. Although Katie Weishaus and Marcie Lebow had opted to have many luncheon meetings at the Golden Mushroom, they would have no more salad bar from which to select their vegetables ... But the two gals were to discover that there was some- thing much better arriving at the G.M. ... Milos Cihelka, Michigan's first Certified Master Chef, had agreed to invest in the Golden Mushroom and become owner Reid Ashton's partner as well as being the nationally-famous restaurant's executive chef. Katie and Marcie couldn't have their salad bar choices anymore, but Milo's great Golden Mushroom soup and salads that included mushrooms and fresh garden vegetables melded together with choice herbs selected by Milos were among his wonderful offerings. Katie's husband, Michael "Mickey" Weishaus, O.D. and former college friend Max Gottesman, O.D., had just purchased Roland Optics in Applegate Square on Inkster and Northwestern in Southfield, from Marcie's brother, Harold Roland, OD ... Taking over Harold's 1,200-square- foot optical offices became their dream realization of one day going into business together. Today, the Golden Mushroom is gone, but Roland Optics is celebrating its 22nd anniversary ...
