Obituaries Obituaries from page C45 BEN B. SIEGAL, 84, formerly of Detroit, of Overland Park, Kan., died Sept. 22, 2008, at the Atriums in Overland Park. He was a first-gen- eration American, born Siegal to Isidor and Rose Siegal. He had three degrees from Wayne University. He was a World War II Army veteran, who served in the 1st Engineers Special Brigade, 3rd Armored Division and the 89th Infantry Division. During his time of service, he was part of the first wave to invade Utah Beach. He was highly decorated and among his awards were four Purple Hearts and four Arrowheads. After the war, Mr. Siegal taught in the Detroit public school system, owned two businesses and eventually retired from the Department of Defense. He was a lifetime member of the Detroit Tennis Club as well as being an accomplished, nationally ranked tennis player. He played into his 70s. His personal characteristics included honesty, integrity, humility, tolerance, self-sacrifice and a robust work ethic. The family would like to acknowledge the staff and other residents at the Atriums who enriched his life during his residence there. Mr. Siegal is survived by his son, Bruce Siegal; daughter, Susan Jacobs; grand- daughter, Lauren Fei Jacobs; his children's mother, Violet Liem, all of Overland Park. Services were at DW Newcomers Sons, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. MURRAY A. STERNE, 80, of Lapeer, died Sept. 20, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Sterne; son, John Sterne of White Lake; daughter, Judy Isakson of Hartland; six stepchildren; sister, Aranka Stark; grand- children, Joshua Sterne, Paul and Joann Sterne, Bradley, Troy; numerous step- grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchil- dren; daughter-in-law, Dorothty Sterne. Mr. Sterne was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ann Sterne; loving father of the late Jeffrey Sterne. She is survived by her son, Dr. Kenneth Goldman of West Bloomfield; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Bruce Abramson of Commerce Township; grandchildren, Andrew and Melanie Goldman, Tia Abramson; sister and brother-in-law, Arline and Ronald Goldberg of California.
