Merton J. Segal of Bloomfield
Hills, founder and chairman of
Meadowbrook Insurance Group Inc.,
will retire as an employee of the
company effective Sept. 30. Segal,
79, founded Meadowbrook in 1955
as Meadowbrook Insurance Agency.
Under his leadership, Meadowbrook
has grown from a startup local retail
agency into a leading specialty risk
management insurance company. He
will continue to serve on the board of
directors as a non-executive chairman
and will also be a consultant to the
company effective Oct. 1.

Shaevsky of West
Bloomfield, a senior
attorney at Detroit-
based Butzel Long,
has been appointed
vice chair of the
Employee Benefits
Shaevsky
Committee of the
Oakland County Bar
Association. Based
in Butzel Long's Bloomfield Hills
office, Shaevsky practices in the area
of employee benefits. He advises profit
and nonprofit employers, as well as
individuals, on compliance and plan-
ning issues pertaining to a wide range
of retirement and welfare plan issues.
He is a member of the State Bar of
Michigan (taxation section) and the
American Bar Association (taxation
section).

Susan Walker of Farmington Hills,
kidney transplant coordinator at
Royal Oak-based Beaumont Hospital,
was honored on Sept. 6 at a National
Kidney Foundation walk event in
Brighton. Local TV news anchor Steve
Garagiola presented her with a plaque
for her terrific contribution to NKF
Michigan's peer mentor program. Also,
she's helping coordinate a special kid-
ney donor recognition event on Oct.
18 in Berkley. This special event will
recognize living donors, recipients and
families.
