ad Ezra, Michigan's kosher
food pantry, will hold
its 18th annual fund-
raiser Monday, Oct. 6, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. The stroll-
ing supper honors Sally and Richard
Krugel, long-time Yad Ezra supporters.
Cheryl and Dan Guyer and Jan and
Mark Hauser are co-chairing the event.
Sally Krugel has worked as a teacher;
campaign consultant for U.S. Rep.
Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak, and U.S.
Sen. Carl Levin, D-Michigan; director of
the Women's Department for the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit;
director of development for Southfield-
based Kadima and American Friends
of Melitz; and director of Federation's
Michigan Miracle Mission 4.
In addition to having served on Yad
Ezra's executive committee, co-chair-
ing two fundraising events and chair-
ing the food pantry's first endowment
campaign, Sally Krugel is a member of
Yad Ezra's Advisory Board.
She has served on the boards of
the United Jewish Appeal National
Women's Young Leadership Cabinet,
Federation Women's Department,
Michigan Jewish Conference, Jewish
Community Relations Council and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek of
Oakland County and its sisterhood.
She is a project coordinator for the
Oakland County-based Jewish Hospice
and Chaplaincy Network and recently
chaired Jewish programming for the
JCC Maccabi Games in Metro Detroit.
Richard Krugel is an orthopedic
surgeon on the faculty of Wayne State
University School of Medicine in
Detroit and practices with the WSU
Physicians Group. He is a vice president

of Federation, serving on the executive
committee and board and chairing its
Alliance for Jewish Education.
He serves on the boards of the
Detroit-based Jewish Fund and the
Visiting Nurses Association of Southeast
Michigan. He is a past president of Fresh
Air Society/Tamarack Camps, United
Jewish Communities and the Jewish
Education Service of North America. He
has served as a co-chair for Yad Ezra's
fundraising dinner and was a member
of the Young Leadership Cabinet of UJA.
Dinner and program journal revenue,
which accounts for a major portion of
Yad Ezra's annual budget, purchases
groceries for the organization's client
families. Yad Ezra provides kosher
food, healthcare items and household
cleaning supplies to 2,800 individu-
als every month. Its client base has
increased 30 percent in two years. Its
volunteers and financial supporters will
enable the food pantry to distribute
800,000 pounds of food this year. ❑

Fall Fix Up Signup
Volunteers are needed for Jewish Family
Service's 12th Annual Fall Fix Up set
for Sunday, Nov. 16, 9:30 a.m.-12:30
p.m. Volunteers will meet at the Jewish
Community Center, 15110 W. Ten Mile,
Oak Park, for breakfast, assignment,
tools and supplies.
This program is aimed at serving our
community's homebound older adults
who are in need of minor home repairs,
and indoor/outdoor cleanup. Teams of
volunteers will rake leaves, dean/orga-
nize basements, winterize windows,
change light bulbs, and do other minor
home repairs.
Fall Fix Up is an opportunity for

individuals, families and organizations
to make a difference in the lives of our
community's elderly.
Jack Cherney is chairperson of Fall
Fix Up. The committee includes Dr.
Steven Dunn, Mich Grossman, Nathan
Shiovitz, Sharon Havis, Gadi Kaplan
and Robin Pluto. Community sponsors
include Broner Inc., Beaumont Hospital,
Providence Hospital, Jewish Community
Center, Universal Bearing Co., and
Yeshivas Darchei Torah.
