More years ago than they can count, Harriet Gelfond and her brother-in- law Chuck Gelfond of Farmington Hills began producing Rosh Hashanah cards sporting their artwork. Harriet's daughter, Gila, also got into on the act some time ago. The cards are much more than a way to showcase their art. They were designed to raise funds for the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit's special needs fund. So 20 percent of each card sold at the West Bloomfield or Oak Park JCC goes to the fund. Cards also are sold at Tapper's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry, West Bloomfield and Novi, with 20 percent going to JARC, a Farmington Hills-based agency that helps those with special needs. Each card sells for $1. Over the years, the artists have amassed more than 35 designs.
