Volunteers lovingly trudged through the grounds to locate those sites as well. The people connections are what have kept Kever Avot going year after year. "The special theme this year was that we were able to locate and serve 12 seniors who had been living at the Hechtman II Jewish Apartments in West Bloomfield, the scene of that bad fire last April: said David Techner of Ira Kaufman Chapel. A recurring gift is the friendships made among volunteers and seniors; some even have dinner together or ask to be with one another the next Kever Avot as well. "You walk away feeling so good about the experience said Frank Kutinsky. "It's truly a mitzvah." "And we appreciate it:' said his newfound friend Charlotte Waxer, speaking, no doubt, for all the senior participants. ❑ Kever Avot, Hebrew for "Graves of our Ancestors," is an 11- year-old program of Temple Israel's Robert Sosnick Family Life Center under the direction of Kari Provizer.
