Obituaries The Chapel that recognizes each family's individual needs. Obituaries from page C43 WALTER A. GOODMAN, 82, of Bloomfield Hills, died Sept. 9, 2008. He received his MBA from Wharton and his master's of arts from Wayne State University. He quickly became a consummate teacher of history and economics and was loved by his stu- dents. He left teaching to become the man- ager of the Michigan State Fair and was appointed by Gov. John Swainson. He brought free concerts to the fair, and it was a great success. He continued his career by becom- ing a regional manager for shopping malls and also went into retail busi- ness with Wells Cargo. After he retired at age 77, he became a substitute teacher in the Detroit Public Schools and then retired permanently at age 80. As a young man, he became a member of DeMolay in 1941 and also the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity. In 1971, he became the director of the Alumni Association of Wayne State and a member of the board of directors of Wayne State Fund from 1971-1974. He became active with the Democratic Party and founded and organized "Teen Dems" an organiza- tion to introduce politics to young people. He became a fearless campaigner, an influential speaker and a precinct delegate for the party. He became an advance man for many politicians and helped with the presidential campaigns of Stevenson, Humphrey, Kennedy, Johnson and Mondale and started many grass- roots committees. His last words were "Civil liberties is what it is all about!" He is survived by the light of his life, his wife, Geraldine Katherine "Gerry" Goodman of Bloomfield Hills; her family, Marsha Silverman Brunelle and Tom Brunelle of Madison, Conn., Wendy Silverman of Bloomfield Hills; Gilbert "Buzz" Silverman Jr. of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; grandchildren, Jessica, Lesley and Michael Silverman and Cynthia Brunelle; sisters and a brother-in- law, Ruth Traurig of West Bloomfield, Helen and Donald Coville of Farmington Hills; nieces and neph- ews, Leslie and Dr. Allan Salomon, Rodney and Vicki Coville, Henry and Diane Traurig, Harmon Mickelson, Joann and Dr. Stephen Levine. Mr. Goodman was the beloved son of the late Bertha and the late Morris Goodman; the loving brother and brother-in-law of the late Florence Mickelson, the late Moe Traurig. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to the Democratic National Committee, 430 S. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carole Krieger; daughters and sons- in-law, Jacqueline Krieger and Ram Uppuluri of Washington D.C., Suzanne and Doug Bade of Kenilworth, Ill.; stepdaughters, Lindsay and Kyle Griffin and Meredith Zielke; grand- children, Benjamin Bade and Adam Uppuluir; many loving nieces, neph- ews, other family members and friends. Services and interment were held in New York. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Great Lakes Yacht Club. Contributions can be made to the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, to Planned Parenthood, to the American Heart Association or to any charity of one's choice. Arrangements were by Dorfman Chapel. SIDNEY MILDER, 90, of West Bloomfield, died Sept. 14, 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Milder; son and daughter- in-law, Stephen and Crystal Milder; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Milder and Manny Freiser of Northridge, Calif.; sister, Esther Freeman of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Sierra Milder, Seanna Milder and Sara Freiser; many other loving family members and friends. Interment was held at the Workmen's Circle Cemetery in Mt. Clemens. Contributions can be made to the Workmen's Circle Association, to the Michigan Humane Society or to any charity of one's choice.
