Windsor Jews
Set Homecoming

Windsor's Reform Congregation
Beth El and the Orthodox Shaar
Hashomayim Congregation will
host a Jewish New Year Gala and
Special Homecoming Reunion for
Windsor Jews and Jews who've left
the city over the years.
"It's a great community, but I've
seen it dwindle, and most of our
kids have gone to Toronto;' Rabbi
Jeffrey Ableser of Beth El told the
Canadian Jewish News (CJN).
Rabbi Ableser estimates the cur-
rent Jewish population in Windsor
at around 1,500, and said he wants
people to remember his community
has been around since the late 1700s.
For the past year, the syna-
gogues have planned the upcoming
gala with an eye toward pitching
Windsor as an attractive alternative
to bigger cities.
The gala is Saturday, Sept. 27, at
the Windsor Jewish Community
Centre and will feature kosher
catering, live music, a comedian, a
silent auction and dancing. Tickets
cost $75. Visit wwwwindsorgala.
corn, or call (519) 969-2422.
