Summer Sunday mornings mean softball for a dedicated group of athletes.
undays in June, July and August mean only one thing for members of the
Intercongregational Men's Clubs Summer Softball League. Ifs a friendly but
spirited competition between teams from seven congregations, played out on
diamonds of green grass and brown dirt at Pioneer Park in Farmington Hills.
And while Temple Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield has dominated the league, winning
six championships during the IMCSSEs 13 years, upsets do happen.
Shir Shalom led the regular season standings with a perfect 10-0 record this summer,
but was upset in the August playoffs by second place (7-3) Congregation Beth Ahm in
West Bloomfield, 15-11.
Temple Kol Ami in West Bloomfield finished tied for fifth with Congregation Shaarey
Zedek of Oakland County during the regular season with a 3-6-1 record. But Kol Ami
Chris Gray of Farmington Hills and Beth Ahm
heads for home.

was hot at the right time, winning its preliminary playoff games over Shaarey Zedek and
Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township, and defeating Beth Ahm 15-9 in the champion-
ship game.
Other teams in the league this year included Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington
Hills and Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.
Over the years, Temple Shir Shalom has won six championships and Young Israel of
Southfield has won four. Adat Shalom, Kol Ami and Shaarey Zedek have each won once.
And, as the season ended, the teams all borrowed from the Book of (Baseball)
