BY CART VAUGHN Jon Lieckfelt, founder and owner of Priss Cosmetics in Figo Salon in Birmingham, is known for helping women — and men — look and feel their absolute best in a very natural, comfortable way, whether for the red carpet, wedding day or every day. The makeup artist/hairstylist (left, styling a model for a photo shoot) has developed a loyal fan base in Detroit and beyond, and his client roster includes such luminaries as Adam Brody, Jaime Pressly and Gabrielle Reece. Platinum caught up with Lieckfelt to find out what's hot for fall beauty (think a stained matte pout and sheer matte complexion, he says), how to transition into the new season and which products can help get us there. Not too trendy? Just do everything with a lighter touch, Lieckfelt suggests. Want more? Read on! CART VAUGHN: What stays, and what goes, from the sum- mer makeup bag? JON LIECKFELT: It's all about matte texture, so it depends on what you already have. Strong eyes are key in shades of bronze and plum. Start with a matte cream shadow, smudge pencil and then layer cake liner over the top. Swap your dewy summer tinted moisturizer for a matte foundation, but dilute with a little water or moisturizer to keep it sheer. Lips are matte, stained and unlined — nude is OK, but not glossy. And always hydrate the lips first so the stain looks natural. CV: Are we still wearing the dark, vampy nails? JL: Weaning away and leaning toward bronze, gold and steel tones. Come party season, ask for embellished nails — ruby encrusted. Think Lee Press-On! CV: What's a new hairstyle that screams fresh and modern? JL: Braids at the hairline, loose braided chignons and loose undone texture, almost frizzy-like. For help getting the look, try liquid Fabric by Shu Uemura. And if your image isn't wrapped up in your long hair, shorts bobs with disconnected backs, a la the 1930s flapper girl, feel really new right now.
