Poole Party

A private screening of an anticipated film
benefits JARC.

BY ROBIN SCHWARTZ

PHOTOGRAPHY BY MIKAH McCALL

When they took their seats at the Birmingham 8 Theatre, more than 200 JARC
supporters were among the first to see the movie Henry Poole is Here, starring
Luke Wilson. Also among the attendees: the film's producer, Detroit native Gary
Gilbert. Gilbert, whose brother Dan Gilbert is a past JARC president, arranged
the exclusive pre-release screening Aug. 3 and held a question-and-answer session
following the closing credits. "My uncle has lived in a JARC home for 20 years,"
Gary Gilbert told the crowd. The Farmington Hills—based organization enables
people with disabilities to be fully included in the community and live digni-
fied lives. Money raised at the screening will help support JARC's 20 homes and
independent-living services. "I'm very proud of the film and the message it sends
of universal hope," Gilbert said. "It was truly a pleasure arranging this screening
because besides being a great cause, hope is at JARC's very core."
