DR. JOEL I. HAMBURGER, 79, of
West Bloomfield, died Aug. 23, 2008.
He was a beloved husband, brother,
father and grandfather.
An internationally known clinical
thyroidologist for more than 30 years,
Dr. Hamburger operated a private
referral center for thyroid patients.
His experience led him to author or
co-author more than 100 papers pub-
lished in leading medical journals as
well as several books. He was a presi-
dent of the Oakland County Medical
Society and the Detroit chapter of the
Zionist Organization of America. He
served his country as a flight surgeon
in the U. S. Air Force.
Dr. Hamburger is survived by
his wife, Hilda Hamburger of West
Bloomfield; his brother, Stuart
Hamburger, and his wife, Sylvia; chil-
dren, Sheldon and Eva Hamburger,
Paul and Nancy Hamburger, Daniel
and Denise Hamburger, Aaron
Hamburger and partner, Anthony
Palatta; grandchildren, Aviv and Orit
Hamburger, Guy Hamburger, Sheri,
Elliot, and Erica Jankelovitz, Ben, Josh,
and Emily Hamburger, Jake, Michael,
and Nick Hamburger.
He was the brother of the late Helen
Kanagur; son of the late Isadore and
the late Henrietta Hamburger.
Interment at the Clover Hill
Cemetery. Contributions may be made

JAN ADLER-
JACOBS, 55, of
Farmington Hills,
died Aug. 23, 2008.
She worked many
years as an insur-
ance underwriter
(CPCU).
Adler-Jacobs
Jan bravely battled
cancer for nearly
seven years, all the time maintaining
her spirit and will to live.
Her great love was art and was
working toward earning an art teach-
ing certification. Jan was extremely
proud to celebrate her son Marc's high
school graduation this year.
Jan Adler-Jacobs is survived by
her beloved husband, Larry Jacobs;
loving son, Marc David; dear father,
Charles Adler of Oak Park; brother-
in-law, Arthur Jacobs; sister-in-law,
Kathy Jacobs; nieces, Sophia and Anne
Marie; aunts, uncle and cousins.
She was the loving daughter of the
late Myra Adler and dear sister of the
late David Adler.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery.

ROBERT NEIL LAWTON, 57, of
Phoenix, Ariz., died Aug. 14, 2008.
Prior to retirement, he was the owner
of Bedland Furniture.
Mr. Lawton is survived by his aunt,
Ruth Goldberg; cousins, Linda Lober
and David Alan.
He was the beloved son of the late
Irving and the late Kathryne Lawton;
loving brother of the late Howard
Lawton and the late Stuart Lawton.
Interment at Turover Farein.

SUSAN LYNN LICHTER, 43, of
Brookline, Mass., died Aug. 18,
2008.
She worked for Partners Health
Care Systems, specializing in health
information services, and received
her undergraduate degree from
Tufts and her MBA from Simmons
College.
Ms. Lichter is survived by her par-
ents, Dr. Paul and Carolyn Lichter of
Ann Arbor; sister and brother-in-law,
Laurie and Haran Rashes of Ann
Arbor; nephews and nieces, Max, Ilana
and Annie Rashes; uncles and aunts,
Dr. Allen and Evie Lichter and Dr.
Martin and Rise Goode.
Interment at Arborcrest Cemetery.
