LI e S- t i01): Dear B ar , m also in the counsel- ing business and I'd like to know how you measure client success? Melissa. , ilsW ,‘r Dear Melissa, That's a very good ques- tion, but not an easy one to answer. First of all, I try to assess how well the client consistently maintains his or her "intention" to achieve their nutrition-related goals. By "inten- tion," I mean the client's desire, eagerness, and determination to see their way through until they've actually achieved what they're striving for (be it weight loss, healthy lifestyle, increased stamina, disease prevention, etc.). ( Another (related) component of success I look for is follow- through, which I also refer to as "completion." By ,,,,:' "completion" I mean the commitment and disci- , pline to maintain (and (7 even improve upon) our i nutrition-related goals, k after they've been ini- tially achieved. Nearly everyone backslides at some point in the process. "Completion" is that ability to stop the backsliding (no matter how often it occurs), dust one's self off, and get back on track—not always an easy thing to do, but essential to achieving long-term success. In truth, real "success" can be difficult to define—sometimes you just know it when you see it. 7:53 p.m. On The Cover: LLC Candlelighting Friday, Sept. 5, 7:41 p.m. Shabbat Ends Saturday, Sept. 6, 8:41 p.m.* General News: (248) 351-5144 Business News: (248) 351-5148 Arts News: (248) 351-5142 Circulation: (248) 351-5174 Retail Ads: (248) 351-5151 Classified Ads: (248) 351-5100 Mari l ik b \ --■ • • AJeA."
